Bhubaneswar: With the Election Commission of India issuing notification for the Presidential polls and the process of nomination beginning from today, political parleys have begun to choose the new President of India.
Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Defence Minister rajnath Singh today spoke to a number of Opposition leaders including Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Sharad Pawar, Mamata Banerjee Akhilesh Yadav, and Mallikarjuna Kharge. According to sources, the senior leader reached out to the opposition parties to discuss regarding election of a consensus candidate for the President’s post.
It is also learnt that Rajnath has also spoken to JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar, Bahujan Samajwadi Party supremo Mayawati and YSR Congress leader Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.
The election for the President will be held on 18th July for which the nomination process began from today. President Ram Nath Kovind’s term ends on July 24th this year.
