Bhubaneswar: National Democratic Alliance’s Presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu will file her nomination papers today. Murmu will file her papers with the Returning Officer and Rajya Sabha Secretary General in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President J P Nadda and others. Two Biju Janata Dal Ministers Tukuni Sahu and Jagannath Saraka are also in Delhi who will also be present today during the filling of the Nomination Papers.
If elected, Droupadi Murmu will be the first president of India belonging to the tribal community. She will be the second woman president of the country. The Biju Janata Dal led by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has welcomed the candidature of Murmu and has wholeheartedly supported her to be the next President of the country.
Droupadi Murmu comes from a modest background and is from a poor tribal family of Mayurbhanj in Odisha. She began her political career from Rairangpur as a councilor of Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat. She also served as the Rairangpur NAC vice-chairman. Droupadi Murmu was elected to the Odisha Legislative assembly from Rairangpur between 2000 and 2009. She served as a minister under the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for two terms with important portfolios such as Transport and Commerce, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries. She was the first Governor of Jharkhand to complete her full term.
