Puri: Nimapara NAC Partners with Transgender SHG for Management of Septage Treatment Plant

Puri: In a good initiative aimed at mainstreaming the transgender community, the Notified Area Council Nimapara in Puri district has partnered with a Transgender SHG for the operation and management of the Septage Treatment Plant (SeTP) in the town.

The Nimapara NAC has roped in Srikhetra Transgender SHG consisting of trans men for the Operation & Management of the Septage Treatment Plant (SeTP) in the town.

The members, after completion of two-months training, are now ready to take over their responsibilities of managing the 10 KLD plant catering to more than 20,000 population.

This is the first trans men group being engaged for management of the SeTP after being inspired by other transgender groups involved in similar roles.

In line with its commitment to community-led and inclusive development, the Odisha Government has been proactively partnering with transgender groups in various urban interventions across the State, informed the Housing & Urban Development Department.
