Retired Police ASI Sentenced to 3 Yrs Rigorous Imprisonment in Bribery Case

Bhubaneswar: A retired police ASI in Dhenkanal district has been sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment after his conviction in a bribery case.

Gouranga Charan Satpathy, Ex-ASI of Police (Retired), Surapratappur Out-post under Bhuban PS, who was charge sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in a Case for demanding and accepting bribe from a complainant to release his seized motor cycle, was convicted by Special Judge, Vigilance, Dhenkanal.

He has been sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 years and fine of Rs.20,000/ and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 6 months more for the offence U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of P.C. Act, 1988.

The Court further sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 years and fine of Rs.20,000 and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 6 months more for the offence U/s 7 P.C. Act, 1988. Both the sentences are to run concurrently.

Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stoppage of pension of Satpathy following his conviction.
