Salma Begum Becomes Odisha’s First Transgender Lawyer To Get Registered At Odisha Bar Council

Bhubaneswar: In a development that could bring cheers to thousands of transgenders in the state and nation, Salma Begum, previously known as Salim, has become the first trangender in Odisha to get registered with the Odisha State Bar Council. A native of Keonjhar district, Salim came in contact with a group of transgenders in 2015 and from then transformed himself to Salma and registered himself as a transgender. He also got himself registered as a transgender in the Adhaar Card after the Transgender Protection Act, 2019 came into existence. Salma will start practicing law in the near future at Barbil in Keonjhar District.

Salma completed the Law Degree at the Pravas Manjari Law College in Keonjhar in 2021.
