Sambalpur: Lawyers Clash With Police During Protest Demanding High Court Permanent Branch

Sambalpur: In a major development, lawyers in Sambalpur today clashed with police forces deployed at the protest site near Kacheri Square. The lawyers were sitting in a dharana demanding permanent bench of the Orissa High Court in Sambalpur. The police had reportedly tried to disperse the protestors and dismantle the tents put up by the lawyers when the clashes took place. About five platoons of police forces have been deployed to avoid any untoward happening.

The Supreme Court had on Monday disapproved the agitating lawyers’ demand for High Court benches and directed suspension of licenses of lawyers agitating in western Odisha. It had also directed for arrangements by police to prevent lawyers from obstructing the working of court.
