Balasore: The Balasore district administration has launched ‘Sanjibani Express’, a unique transport service for the dialysis patients.
Flagging off the Sanjibani Express service, Balasore Collector Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde said, “This will provide multi facility transport service to the dialysis patients belonging to the remote areas in the district.”
Around 300 patients come for dialysis every week. Most of them have to take dialysis twice every week. Many of them come from remote areas like Bhograi,Oupada,Baliapal and Simulia. During one weekly grievance session some patients asked for financial help for travel purpose. It came to notice that they are spending around Rs 2000 per week for travel and food. So many patients discontinue the treatment, the Collector said.
“We had BBUTT buses lying unused in town. They were rotting. One of them was immediately repaired. The health team has prepared a schedule and route chart so that maximum patients can benefit”, he added.
Sanjibani Express will have stops at central points. The patients will be picked up and dropped off at those points. One attendant is allowed with reach patient. They will be provided with light snacks.
Funding will be done thought ZSS and Red Cross funds. Funds under innovation in health sector will be used. Expenditure is around Rs 1.3 lakh per month there will be two routes covered in one day so that maximum people will be benefited.
Meanwhile, people of Balasore district have lauded this unique initiative of the administration.
