Jeypore: When we come across the word ‘classroom’, we generally think of wooden tables, benches, traditional blackboard, dusty duster and pieces of chalk in a room. The perception is same almost everywhere. But, in the tribal dominated Koraput district in Odisha, the concept of classroom is fast changing and going to be replaced by tech-driven smart classroom.

The schools in this southern district are gradually moving towards adopting smart classes to replace traditional methods of teaching.

A smart classroom is a technology-driven learning tool that enhances the way of teaching and learning digitally. The classroom is equipped with the digital displays, tabs, whiteboards, assistive listening devices, and other audio/visual components that make teaching easier, engaging, and more interactive.

A government high school at Kumuli in Borigumma block has already implemented the concept smart classroom for the class 9 and 10 students and others will follow the suit to provide a new of teaching to the students.

Speaking about the digital initiative, Koraput Collector Md. Abdaal Akhtar said, “We have started this month in Kumuli High School. 14 more high schools have been sanctioned under DMF for the smart classroom initiatives and 11 more will be taken up under SFC and government contribution in the School Transformation Project of the State Government”.

In addition, all these schools will have good furniture, e-library, proper playground, toilets and other facilities, he added.

The smart class is an interactive learning tool, which does not require any TV screen. Plain wall is enough and it has inbuilt lessons in Odia and English medium for the students.
