Second Meeting of the High Level Committee On Irregularity In Fire Services Held

Bhubaneswar: The High Level Committee constituted in the aftermath of the allegations surfaced regarding delay in issue of fire certificates held a meeting at the Lok Seva Bhawan yesterday.

The three-member high level committee consisting of Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy, Development Commissioner Suresh Mohapatra and Home Secretary Sanjiv Chopra met today for the second time to also probe into the allegations against former Fire DG B K Sharma received by the government.

The committee mainly discussed about the number of applications received for issue fire certificates in the last two years, how many are pending, how many issued and how many applications were rejected. Some of the applications from big projects including shopping malls and hospitals and apartments were pending for months without any reason.

There were certain allegations of irregularities against Sharma during his tenure as Director General of Fire Services. It is alleged that he was sitting over the files relating to the applications for issue of fire safety certificates for a quite long time. After the allegations cropped up, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik ordered a high level inquiry.

This move is a part of the government’s 5-T initiative that aims for transparency and accountability in governance.
