New Delhi: Pune based Serum Institute of India has partnered with the Oxford University of UK to produce upto 40 million Coronavirus vaccines by September of this year. According to the company the vaccine in India may cost around Rs 1000 per dose.
Serum Institute is one of the seven companies worldwide that Oxford University has partnered to produce the Coronavirus vaccine developed by it.
According to Adar Poonawalla, CEO, Serum Institute Of India “Our team has been working closely with Dr Hill from Oxford University, and we are expecting to initiate production of the vaccine in 2-3 weeks and produce 5 million doses per month for the first 6 months, following which, we hope to scale up production to 10 million doses per month,”. According to the company the prices in India are expected to be lower than other countries. He also added that the company expects to produce up to 40 million doses by September-October.
