Bhubaneswar: A former Panchayat Samiti Chairperson and her spouse were sentenced to jail in a bribery case in Odisha’s Sundargarh district.
Kaushalya Dhrua, Ex-Chairperson, Tangarpali Panchayat Samiti, Dist-Sundargarh and her spouse Indramani Dhrua, who were charge sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in a case vide Special Judge Vigilance, Sundargarh TR No.38/2015 U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 P.C. Act,1988/34 IPC for acceptance of bribe of Rs.9,000 from a complainant for release of payment of final bills towards three developmental projects executed by the complt. under MP-LAD fund, were convicted by Special Judge, Vigilance, Sundargarh.
The Court sentenced Kaushalya Dhrua to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 4 years and fine of Rs.5,000 and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 6 months more for the offence U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of PC Act,1988. The Court further sentenced her to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 years and fine of Rs.4,000 and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 5 months more for the offence U/s 7 P.C. Act,1988. Both the sentences are to run concurrently.
The Court also sentenced Indramani Dhrua to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 years and fine of Rs.5,000 and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 6 months more for the offence U/s 12 of PC Act,1988.
The convict Kaushalya Dhrua was sent to jail custody to serve her sentence.
