Bhubaneswar: In the wake of theft at famous Maa Taratarini Temple in Ganjam district, opposition Biju Janata Dal has decided to send a fact-finding team to the hilltop shrine this evening.
On the instruction of BJD President and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Naveen Patnaik, the fact-finding team will visit the shrine and gather information regarding the shocking incident.
The team comprising former Berhampur MP Chandrasekhar Sahu, former MLAs Bikram Kumar Panda, Suryamani Vaidya and Ganjam BJD district president Ramesh Chandra Chau Patnaik is expected to visit the temple today and submit a detailed report to the BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik.
Notably, a group of thieves broke into the revered Taratarini hill shrine late Tuesday night and escaped with the valuables in the temple including a silver crown of the presiding deity.
As per reports, the thieves broke a grill and the lock on the main door to steal a silver crown, other ornaments and cash from the hundi of the temple.
The BJD has come down heavily on the BJP government over the incident.
In a press briefing, BJD spokesperson Lekhasri Samantsinghar said that the BJP government has completely failed to protect the famous heritage site. The law and order has broken down in the state. The BJP government does not know how to run the administration, she added.
