Telangana Tribal Welfare Minister to Visit Odisha on May 27

Bhubaneswar: Telangana State Tribal and Women Welfare Minister Satyavathi Rathod will be visiting Odisha to learn about the best practices adopted by the ST & SC Development Department of the Government of Odisha.

The Minister along with a team of officers of Tribal Welfare Department will be visiting Odisha from May 27 to May 28, according to an official release.

During the two-day visit, the Telangana team will specifically study the Mission Suvidya Programme where NABET- QCI collaborated with ST & SC Development Department in December 2019 to assess, evaluate and benchmark SSD hostels with an effort to standardise the management processes, systems and procedures and thereby further improve the basic services.

The evaluation of the residential hostels was based primarily on seven parameters: Governance & Management, Health & Nutrition, Safety & Security, Human Resource, Basic Amenities & Recreation and Quality Assurance Mechanism. Final grade was awarded to each hostel on the basis of their facilities, initiatives and processes under these parameters. The end objective was to provide concrete recommendations to prepare these hostels for ISO 9001:2015 certifications.

They will also study Multi-Language Education (MLE) Programme Samhati, an initiative on promotion of Multi-Language Education (MLE) to address the language issues of tribal students studying in early grades in SSD residential schools, according to the an official release.

Under this programme the Department plans to cover approximately 1.5 lakh students in 1,407 primary schools in the State under ST/SC Development Department. The most important aspect of Mother-Tongue Based Multi-Lingual Education (MTBMLE) is that it will help to conserve and optimally utilize tribal languages as an effective teaching-learning tool. The Multilingual Learning, under Samhati it has been decided that all teachers of primary level would be provided functional knowledge of tribal languages and ways of communicating/transacting with tribal students.
