Three convicted in Ranchi news channel office double-murder case

Ranchi: A court in Ranchi on Monday convicted three accused, including a TV news channel head, and acquitted one accused in a case related to the murder of two businessman brothers at a news channel office.

The court of Additional Justice Vishal Srivastava listed the matter for next hearing on June 30.

The two brothers, Mahendra Agarwal and Hemant Agarwal, were shot dead at the office of a private TV channel in Ashok Nagar on March 6, 2019 over a loan dispute. The duo ran a money lending business.

The news channel was operated by Lokesh Chaudhary, who owed a hefty amount to Hemant and Mahendra. Chaudhary has been convicted by the court.

The brothers from the Lalpur area in Ranchi were called by Chaudhary to the news channel office for a meeting on March 6, 2019. They were apparently paid money by Chaudhary.

Soon after, Choudhary’s friends S.K. Singh and Dharmendra Tiwari and bodyguard Sunil Singh, impersonating as IB officers, entered the room and tried to seize the cash from Hemant and Mahendra. When they resisted, the accused shot them dead.

After committing the crime, Choudhary fled to Bihar with his wife and children. He also took the CCTV footage from the DVR with him.

Later, his bodyguard disclosed the whole matter to the police after he was arrested.

On March 9, 2020, Choudhary surrendered before a court in Ranchi.
