Bargarh: Three persons including a woman and her two children were trampled to death by a herd of wild elephants in Saldihi village under Paikamala Range in Bargarh district last night. Three others have also received serious injuries in the incident who have been admitted in hospital.
According to sources, the mishap occurred when the family members were sleeping outside their house and a herd of wild elephants entered in search of food. The elephants damaged the house and trampled the family members. The three deceased have been identified as Pana Bariha and her two children Sunanda Bariha and Aditya Bariha. Tension prevailed in the village as the villagers have alleged that their have been no communication from the Forest Department regarding presence of elephants in the area. Police and Forest Department officials are investigating the matter.
