Berhampur: Taking seriously the issue of violation of Model Code of Conduct by the Bharatiya Janata Party office bearers and workers, the Konisi Tahasil Executive Magistrate has asked the Golanthara Police station Inspector in-charge to file an FIR immediately. In its letter to the IIC, the Tahasildar has said that by organizing a feast for 300 party workers in a school and without following any Covid-19 guidelines, the District President of Bharatiya Janata Party Bibhuti Bhusana Jena has violated the Model Code of Conduct. He requested the IIC to file an FIR immediately and take necessary action as per provisions.
The MCC clearly say that no place of worship, building, offices, accommodation belonging to government, educational institutions shall be used for election meetings, propaganda, workers meet etc.
The Konisi Tahasildar has also issued a notice to the District BJP President Bibhuti Bhushan Jena directing him to provide a satisfactory explanation as to why necessary action will not be initiated against him for violating the Model Code and Covid-19 protocol. The Tahasildar also directed Bibhuti to before him tomorrow with a bond to keep peace and good behavior failing which action will be taken against him.
Earlier during the day, a delegation of the Biju Janata Dal has submitted a memorandum to the State Election Commission in this regard and sought action against the Ganjam District President of BJP Bibhuti Bhushan Jena alleging violation of the Model Code of Conduct in Golanthra and Konisi in Ganjam district.
In the representation given to the SEC, the BJD delegation said that the BJP’s Ganjam District President Bibhuti Bhusan Jena and other BJP leaders have grossly violated the Model Code of Conduct Guidelines. The BJD alleged that, the BJP organised a meeting and feast for the election campaign of BJP at the Government High School premises in Golanthara, Ganjam District today in violation of the Model Code of Conduct. Conducting such an election related feast in the Government School is a blatant violation of the rules.
Further this evening, Bibhuti Bhusan Jena, along with other BJP leaders and workers also organised and led a rally at Konisi in Ganjam district after 7 pm today despite the strict no-campaigning period being in effect.
The BJD delegation also provided the photographic evidence of the election feast and the videographic evidence of the rally in a pen drive to the Elections Commission for its perusal along with the memorandum.
