New Delhi: The biggest elections after the last general elections are underway as people from across 20 states cast their votes to elect their representatives. As people of Maharashtra and Haryana are casting their votes for the assembly elections, 51 assembly constituencies spread across 18 states are voting in the by-polls necessitated for various reasons. Two Lok Sabha seats, Satara in Maharastra and Samastipur in Bihar, are also going for polls today.
Polling began at 7 AM for the 288 member Maharashtra assembly and 90 member Haryana assembly. In Maharashtra, as many as 8.98 crore voters will cast their votes and in Haryana about 1.84 crore voters will exercise their franchise. Counting for all the polling being held today will be on the 24th of this month.
In the by-polls, Uttar Pradesh has the maximum number of seats at eleven. Six constituencies in Gujarat, Five each in Kerala and Bihar, four each in Punjab and Assam, three in Sikkim, two each in Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and Tamilnadu, and one each in Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Odisha, Telangana and Puducherry, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh are also going for polls today.
