WB Returnees A Cause of Concern For Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Within hours of the recovery of the last infected person from Sundergarh, three new Coronavirus cases were recorded from the district taking the total tally in Odisha to 103. The new infections are from Rourkela and include two male and one female – two close contacts of an earlier reported case and a suspected contact. The spike in number of cases in the last one week is a cause of concern for the state government and has already set the alarm bells ringing. Most of the infections reported in the last few days are related to returnees from West Bengal.

While the number of infections in the Hotspot of Khordha district remained constant at 46, Jajpur saw the numbers increase to 18. Likewise, the numbers in Bhadrak and Balasore now stand at 16 and 10 respectively. Out of the ten districts of Odisha which have recorded positive Coronavirus cases, there are only six districts now with active cases. At present there are 68 active cases in the state and 34 persons have recovered. Odisha has recorded only one death due to the deadly virus.

As on 25th April, the cumulative number of RT PCR Tests carried out in Odisha stands out at 22816 with 2217 tests conducted on 25th April. As the number of tests being done daily increasing, the number of infected persons being identified is also rising which is a good sign for the state.
