India Lockdown: Centre Asks States to Allow Transportation of Goods without Distinction

New Delhi: After Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggesting for seamlessly movement of goods without differentiation of essential and non-essential, the Centre has asked all states and Union territories to allow transportation of all goods, without distinction of essential and non-essential, during the 21-day lockdown period.

In a letter to PM Modi on March 26, Naveen stated that differentiation of goods as essential and non-essential would lead to discretion, corruption and dislocation at checkpost level.

The movement of goods may be permitted seamlessly across the country without any differentiation to avoid clogging which may adversely impact supply of essential goods, the Odisha CM suggested.

The Union Home Ministry on Sunday urged all states and Union territories to allow transportation of all goods, without distinction of essential and non-essential, during the 21-day lockdown period.

In a letter to State Chief Secretaries, Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla said, the newspaper delivery supply chain is allowed during lockdown.

He also said, the entire supply chain of milk collection and distribution, including its packing materials, has also been allowed during the period. Besides, Groceries including hygiene products such as hand wash, soaps, disinfectants, oral care items, battery cells and chargers are also allowed.

Bhalla said, the services of Indian Red Cross Society is included under Establishment of National Disaster Management Authority.
