Odisha’s First Outdoor Handball Synthetic Court Set up in Keonjhar

Keonjhar: In a major boost to sports infra in the district, the Keonjhar administration has developed a state-of-the-art outdoor handball synthetic court, which is the first such facility in Odisha.

Keonjhar Handball Ground, located in Kendujhargarh Municipality is first of its kind with provision of outdoor synthetic court in Odisha.

The handball ground campus with an area around 1.6 acre has been developed with best-in-class landscaping and provision of play areas.

The synthetic handball court has been built as per the standards of the IHF (Internationals Handball Federation).

Dual Handball Courts (Synthetic Pro-Cushion Surface) covering an area of 0.5 acre is built with a seating capacity of around 200. Material used for preparation of synthetic court has been certified under ‘Category 4-Medium-Fast’ by International Tennis Federation (ITF), according to the district administration.

Night play capability has been ensured with installation of sports standard ‘High Mast Lights’.

The project was inaugurated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on November 18.

The campus has been developed for multi-disciplinary public use for activities like ‘walking pathways’, acupressure track, children’s play area, open air gym, gymnasium, yoga platform, toilet block, seating arena and drinking water.

Sanctioned with a cost Rs 3.26 crore under DMF Keonjhar, the facility is expected to nurture and provide exposure to the sportspersons with international standard of sporting culture.
