Plastic Waste Management: Puri District Brings another National Laurel for Odisha

New Delhi: Puri district administration has today received great accolades and a citation from the Government of India’s ‘Jal Shakti Mantralaya,( The Ministry for Water Resources) and SBM Grameen,’ for its path-breaking achievements in plastic waste management in Puri City and all over the district to keep the environment free from pollution.

In a national level workshop the Open Defecation Free Sustainability, held the award was handed over by noted Bollywood Actor Amir Khan who attended the workshop as a guest.

The Addl. Executive Officer of Puri Municipality Saroj Kumar Swain who made the presentation there, received it on behalf of the district administration.

The write-up and the presentation prepared by the Puri district administration was highly praised at the above workshop.
The campaign to keep Puri district a hundred percent free from the use of plastic was kicked off on Gandhi Jayanti last year and it is being spearheaded by district Collector Balwant Singh, who is leading this mass movement campaign from front and personally participating in the sensitizing programme with various organizations and people from all walks of life to create public awareness and their involvement on the environment issues.

The endeavour of the administration and public participation has brought the national laurel.
