Shiromani Akali Dal Snaps Ties with NDA over Farm Bills

New Delhi: In a major political development, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), one of the oldest allies of BJP, has decided to pull out of Prime Minister Narendra Modi led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) over the farm bills, which have triggered farmers’ protest across India, particularly in Punjab and Haryana.

Announcing the decision, the SAD said, it was the Central Government’s stubborn refusal to give statutory legislative guarantees to protect assured marketing of farmers crops on MSP and its continued insensitivity to Punjabi and Sikh issues forced SAD to snap the ties.

The SAD becomes the third major NDA ally to pull out of the grouping after the Shiv Sena and the TDP.
