Trees Uprooted in Balukhand Sanctuary during Fani to Be Used for Cooking Purposes at Srimandir

Bhubaneswar: Dead trees from Balukhand sanctuary in Puri district will be used for cooking purposes at the Lord Jagannath temple in Puri.

As per reports, the Odisha Forest Department is planning to send dead wood from Balukhand sanctuary along the Puri-Konark marine drive to Shree Jagannath temple and Swargadwar in Puri.

It has been informed by Forest and Environment Minister Bikram Keshari Arukha, who presided a meeting of the State Wildlife Board here on Friday regarding this.

He said that cyclone Fani that hit the State in May this year caused massive damage in Puri district uprooting thousands of trees.

The Forest Department has decided to send about 15 lakh quintals of dead trees to Srimandir for cooking purposes and to Swargadwar for funerals, he told the media after the meeting.

Besides, the dead trees will also be used for the construction of a ropeway at Nandankanan Zoo, he added.
