Trouble For Apollo Hospital: NHRC Seeks ATR From Odisha Govt

Bhubaneswar: Acting tough on the issue of compliance of its order, the National Human Rights Commission has asked for the Action Taken Report from Odisha Government with regard to suspension/cancellation of registration of the Apollo Hospital at Bhubneswar. NHRC has orderd the government to furnish within within 6 weeks positively the report u/s 16 of the Transplantation of Human Organs & Tissues Act, 1994 failing which the Commission shall be constrained to issue coercive process u/s 13 of the PHR Act, 1993.

In its order, the Commission has asked Odisha government to take appropriate steps in this matter. The notification said, “The matter relates to illegal kidney transplantation of the victim by his neighbours in connivance with DMET and Apollo Hospital at Bhubaneshwar Odisha.”

The NHRC also directed the Chief Secretary of Odisha to pay Rs. 2, 00,000 to the victim Anil Kumar Swamy and submit proof of payment within 6 weeks. It also directed the Odisha government to take action against the hospital and submit a report to this effect.
