Elderly People are More Vulnerable to Coronavirus: Subroto Bagchi

Bhubaneswar: Elderly people are more vulnerable to the Coronavirus, said Subroto Bagchi, Chief Spokesperson of Odisha Government on Covid-19.

Six elders are such persons who have died due to covid-19, but it was their family members who are responsible for it. It was due to casual behavior of their other family members, they got infected and died, said Bagchi.

Instances of the elderly are being put to risk and even death by unsafe behavior of family members are coming to the fore. The elderly stayed home but their loved ones went out and did “door delivery of death” for the very ones who once brought them to this world. Be responsible to them, he added.

The Government has given us flexibility of home quarantine in urban areas. With people coming back, it is becoming “family reunion”. Home quarantine is not family reunion. We stay home, isolated and follow all rules of institutional quarantine. Don’t do door delivery of death, he said.

While young persons are getting cured, but senior member of the family who get infected from other member do the family could not recover and died, Bagchi added.

“This is unfortunate,” he added.
