Odisha Minister Demands Centre for Disability Sports in State Capital

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Minister for Social Security and Empowerment of PWDs (SSEPD) Ashok Chandra Panda today emphasized the need for setting up a Centre for Disability Sports in State Capital.

Speaking at the Central Advisory Board Meeting on Disability in Vigyan Bhawan, Delhi convened by Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, the Odisha Minister also demanded to establish two Early Childhood Rehabilitation Centres in the State.
Panda urged the Centre to sanction three District Disability Rehabilitation Centres (DDRCs) on the basis of the proposal sent by SSEPD Department in 2018-19.

In the meeting, the Minister also appraised the Central government about the progress of activities of his department, such as issuance of Universal Disability Identity Card (UDID) and Integrated Infrastructure Centre for PWDs at Jatni.

He also highlighted the initiative to construct ramps at all government institutions in Odisha to be made accessible for disabled people under the Accessible India Campaign.

Construction of ramps has been completed at 117 out of 203 identified buildings in State Capital under the campaign, he said.

The Odisha Government has already framed Rights of Persons with Disabilities Rules, 2018 and state advisory board has been constituted, he added.
