Subarnapur Coldest Place in Odisha With 4 Degree Celsius: Met Predicts Cold Wave For Next Three Days

Bhubaneswar: Severe cold wave conditions have affected normal life in some of the districts of Odisha with Subarnapur recording the lowest temperature of the season at 4 degrees Celsius. The MET Department has predicted cold wave conditions will prevail in the next two to three days in various districts.

Nine cities of the state witnessed temperatures less than ten degrees with Keonjhar at 5.6 degrees, Jharsuguda 5.8 degrees,Titlagarh and Daringbadi 7 degrees, Sambalpur 7.4degrees, Balasore 7.6degrees, Cuttack 7.6 degrees and Bhubaneswar recorded 12 degrees Celsius.

In Sundergarh’s Bonai area normal life has gone out of gear with Koida and Tensa experiencing severe cold wave.  Temperatures have suddenly slipped below 5 degrees.

Meanwhile, Odisha Special Relief Commissioner yesterday issued an advisory to district collectors asking them to remain alert on the cold wave conditions. The IMD issued cold wave warning in many parts of Odisha for the next two to three days from Saturday.

Cold wave conditions are likely to prevail over Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Keojhar, Mayurbhanj and Balasore districts with night time temperature falling by four to six degrees Celsius. The MET department has also warned of dense fog in some places of Odisha in the next two days.

The Odisha government has directed District Collectors to keep a close watch on the cold wave situation and take appropriate steps to deal with the cold wave. The advisory issued by the SRC says “People having no proper houses may be allowed to take shelter during night in schools and other public buildings. Steps may be taken for proper arrangement in night shelters in urban areas to provide accommodation to homeless and needy people. Necessary steps may be taken by police and officials of transport department for controlled plying of vehicles in fog-affected areas.”
