Bhubaneswar: Tension flared up in the Utkal University, Vani Vihar campus, a premier universities in the State here as students and police were engaged in a scuffle while the former tried to barged the office of Vice-Chancellor forcibly during a agitation this morning.
According to reports, hundreds of boys and girls opened the grill and tried to enter the VC office in protest against non-fulfilment of their longstanding demands including shifting of new gate, holding of Students’ Union poll, non appointment of teachers against vacant posts, facilities at hostels and reformation in the admission process among others.
Police, however rushed to the spot and tried to stop them to enter into VC office, the scuffle erupted between them. The situation was such that DCP Anup Sahu had to go there to pacify the angry students.
“The Vice-Chancellor had promised us to fulfil our demands within six months. The time is over now but not a single demand met,” rued agitating students.
