Cuttack: In a significant judgment, the Orissa High Court has annulled the election of Cuttack-Barabati MLA Mohammed Moquim. The High Court gave the judgment while hearing a petition of Biju Janata Dal’s Debashish Samantaray.
The High Court nullified the election of Moquim in 2019 citing his failure to provide comprehensive information regarding criminal cases against him in his affidavit during the filing of the nomination.
Debashish Samantaray had challenged the election of Moquim alleging that he had suppressed information regarding criminal cases pending against him in the nomination papers. He had also alleged that Moquim did not disclose correct facts about his assets and liabilities in the nomination papers.
