Koraput: Retired BDO Sentenced to 3 Yrs Imprisonment for Misappropriating Govt Funds

Bhubaneswar: A retired BDO and former PEO of Naraynapatna Block in Koraput district have been sentenced to three years imprisonment for misappropriating government funds.

Ramesh Chandra Sahoo, Ex-BDO, Naraynapatna Block, and Gourahari Rout, Ex-PEO, Naraynapatna Block and currently PEO, Onkadeli GP under Lamtaput Block, Dist-Koraput, who were charge sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in a Case vide Spl. Judge Vigilance, Jeypore TR No.05/2024 U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(c)(d) of PC Act, 1988/409/120-B IPC, for misappropriation of Govt. money to the tune of Rs.6,00,000/- without executing the work i.e. construction work of two Anganbadi centres, were convicted by Special Judge, Vigilance, Jeypore.

The Court sentenced them to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 years and to pay fine of Rs.50,000 each and in default of payment of fine, to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 6 months each for the offence U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(c)(d) of PC Act, 1988.

The Court further sentenced them to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 4 years and to pay fine of Rs.1,00,000 each and in default of payment of fine, to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 1 year each for the offence U/s 409 IPC.

The Court also sentenced them to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 6 months and to pay fine of Rs.5,000 each and in default of payment of fine, to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 1 month each for the offence U/s 120-B IPC. All the sentences are to run concurrently.

Today, both the convicts were sent to jail custody to serve their sentence.

Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stoppage of pension of Ramesh Chandra Sahoo and dismissal of Gourahari Rout from service following their conviction.
