Bhitarkanika National Park to Reopen for Tourists on August 1

Kendrapara: Bhitarkanika National Park in Odisha’s Kendrapara district will reopen for the visitors on August 1.

The national park is reopening after a three-month closure.

The park was closed from May 1 to July 31 due to the breeding season of saltwater crocodiles, informed Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) Manas Das.

The crocodiles become more aggressive during this time, so we imposed a three-month ban for the safety of tourists and locals, ensuring a peaceful environment for the reptiles’ mating and nesting, the ACF said.

This year approximately 114 crocodiles have nested in Bhitarkanika National Park.

The Forest Department has constructed a 600-meter-long wooden canopy walkway, elevated 15 meters above the ground, for Rs 40 lakh, allowing visitors an intimate view of the forest and its wildlife. Additionally, the watchtower and hunting tower have been refurbished.
