Naveen Demands Inclusion of 169 Communities in ST List of Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) President Naveen Patnaik on Friday reiterated his commitment for the development of tribal communities in Odisha.

Gracing the World Tribal Day celebration at Sankha Bhawan, Naveen demanded the inclusion of 169 communities in the ST list of Odisha.

The BJD supremo also reiterated his demand for the inclusion of  tribal languages, such as Ho, Mundari, Bhumij, and Saora in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution. It is absolutely necessary to strengthen the education and livelihood of tribals, he said.

There are 64 tribal communities and 13 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) in Odisha. The BJD government had implemented many schemes for the tribals. A Special Development Council was formed for the tribal communities, he said.

Naveen said that Koraput Medical College was named after Saheed Laxman Naik, Kalahandi Medical College was named after  Saheed Rendo Majhi and Baripada Medical College was named after Pandit Raghunath Murmu during the BJD government.  The world’s largest hockey stadium has been built in Rourkela in the name of Birsa Munda, he said.

The BJD has always been and will always be with the tribals, Naveen stated.
