Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, two persons died and six others were critically ill after consuming mango kernels in Odisha’s Kandhamal district.
The incident occurred in Mandipanka village of Daringbadi block of Kandhamal district.
As per reports, two women initially felt stomach pain and discomfort after eating the kernels. They were taken to Godapur Community Health Centre and later transferred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur as their health deteriorated.
One woman passed away during treatment, and another died while she was on the way to the hospital.
The condition of six other persons was stated to be critical.
The exact reason of death is yet to be confirmed by medical professionals, however food poisoning from mango kernel consumption is suspected by the community.
Meanwhile, Odisha Director Health Dr. Bijay Mohapatra said that the Integrated Disease Surveillance Project (IDSP) officials, Mobile Health Unit and local medical teams are keeping a watch on the situation. Whether it is food poisoning or diarrhoea, we will get the confirmation after the team submits a report.
