Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s ruling Biju Janata Dal has won the elections to the Mayor posts in Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC).
BJD candidate Sulochana Das defeated her nearest rival BJP’s Suniti Mund by a huge margin of 61,143 votes to win the BMC Mayor post. Das secured 1,74,562 votes.
She has become the first woman to be elected as the Mayor of BMC.
In Cuttack, BJD candidate Subash Singh beat Congress candidate Giribala Behera by a margin of 45,206 votes to win the Mayoral election. Singh secured 113562 votes.
With this, the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik-led party won all three Mayor posts, for which elections were held on March 24.
