Persons With Disability First: BMC Waste Collection Vehicle To Halt At Doorsteps of PWDs

Bhubaneswar: A step ahead of other cities Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has started putting up signage and stickers in front of households having ‘Persons With Disability (PWD)’. This will be an indicator for waste collection vehicles(SAFAI GADI)to halt at the doorsteps of PWDs till the household give the waste to the vehicle.

The idea initiated in community level review on Sani Wall has been grounded today as an inclusive sanitation initiative of the ULB. At around 10 am the initiative was started today in identified areas of three administrative zones in collaboration with the civil society organisation “Centre For Advocacy and Research (CFAR)”.

In the start up today at Tapobana Basti of ward no.63 coming under South West Zone; Dy. Commissioner Sanitation ,BMC Suvendu Kumar Sahoo was present in the area to lead the initiative there. In pandav Nagar area of ward no.57 under South East Zone, Zonal Deputy Commissioner Mahendra Kumar Badhei led the initiative and in Nirankari Nagar of ward no.21 under North Zone Sanitary Inspector and ward officer of the area made the drive.

The drive started will cover 67 wards of BMC to bring a positive change in waste collection initiative and encourage greater participation of communities. This is first time in the state and authority here gives due importance to PWD families to participate in the swachhata campaig; told Suvendu Kumar. Other organisatiins will be associated with us to complete the initiative, he added.
