Bhubaneswar: Odisha Transport Department has asked its officers engaged in enforcing traffic rules to take strict action against the traffic rule violators.
The Transport Department has warned the officers engaged in enforcing traffic rules that failing to achieve the targets of penalising traffic violators will invite negative remarks in their annual Performance Appraisal Reports (PARs).
Transport Secretary Bishnupada Sethi, in a letter to all Regional Transport Officers (RTOs), said, “Enforcement activities (RTO-wise) are being monitored on a daily basis by the commerce and transport department. It is observed that detection of severe offences like over speeding, drunken driving, use of mobile phone while driving, carrying overloads and wrong side driving by the enforcement officers are very less compared to the target assigned.”
“The performance of the officers will be reflected in their annual Performance Appraisal Report (PAR). Deputy Commissioners of transport during their monthly visit to the RTOs, will review the enforcement activities of the RTOs and submit reports to the transport commissioner and this department for further action,” the letter stated.
The main objective of linking the enforcement targets to the PAR is to encourage the RTOs to take strict action against the traffic rule violators, the Transport Department stated.
