Sambalpur: The Hirakud Dam authorities will release the season’s first flood waters today. The water will be released at around 11 am after offering prayers. Initially only five gates are expec ted to be opened and as per requirement, the decision will be taken to open more gates. All the twelve district authorities in the lower catchment areas have been asked to stay on alert are the water level is expected to rise. The water level at Hirakud is presently stands at about 615 feet.
