Bhubaneswar: As many as 8506 persons have reportedly drowned in Odisha during the years 2016 to 2021.
This has been informed by Minister of State for Home Tusharkanti Behera on Monday.
In a written reply to the query of BJP MLA Sukanta Kumar Nayak, the Minister said that 935 drowning cases were reported in 2016 with the highest 121 cases reported from Cuttack Urban Police District.
In the year 2017, as many as 1079 drowning cases were reported in the State with Mayurbhanj district recording maximum number of 90 cases. The number of cases stood at 1406 in 2019 with highest number of 123 cases reported from Mayurbhanj district.
The State had reported 1441 cases in 2019, 1840 cases in 2020 and 1805 cases in 2021. The maximum number of cases were reported from Mayurbhanj district in these three years – 104 cases in 2019, 152 cases in 2020 and 167 cases in 2021.
