Keonjhar: In a bizarre incident happened yesterday, a herd of 24 elephants were found dozing off in the casew forest of Shilipada under Patana forest range in Keonjhar. According to locals, the elephants were sleeping high after consuming Mahua. For the last few days, the locals had seen the herd of 24 elephants in the area and were keeping an eye on their movement. Some people saw the elephants sleeping in the forest and the word spread. According to some villagers, the elephants might have consumed the fermented Mahua flowers kept in the forest by the locals to make country liquor. The elephants were so intoxicated that they were unable to awake till late morning on Tuesday.
