CM Naveen Announces Rs 111 Crore Financial Assistance For Kendu Leaf Beneficiaries

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today announced Rs 111 crore financial assistance for the Kendu Leaf Beneficiaries of the state. With this, the total assistance announced by the Chief Minister for the crop year 2022 will be highest ever at Rs 194 crore. This is the highest ever package announced by the Government of Odisha in a single crop year. Today’s announcement is the 2nd phase of the package announced by the Chief Minister last year. In the first phase, Rs 83 Crore was distributed among the beneficiaries.

The announcement by the Chief Minister will benefit more than 8 lakh beneficiaries associated with the Kendu Leaf field including 7.75 lakh pluckers, 40 thousand binders and seasonal staff.

According to the announcement, each Kendu Leaf plucker will be given Rs 1000 financial assistance and Rs 200 and Rs 160 for drinking water and shoes respectively. Likewise, each binder and seasonal staff will be given Rs 1500 financial assistance.

The benefits will be immediately transferred into the accounts of the beneficiaries belonging to 22 districts except Jharsuguda. The beneficiaries of Jharsuguda will receive the assistance after the Model Code of Conduct is withdrawn.
