Jharsuguda By-polls: Voting Continues Peacefully In 253 Booths

Jharsuguda: The voting for the Jharsuguda Assembly Constituency by-polls commenced peacefully and continuing without any issues. The voting began today morning at 7 AM at the 253 booths with foolproof security arrangements. While the administration has engaged 19 platoons of Police forces, about 100 police officials are overseeing the security. Also, webcasting is being done in all the polling booths.

A total of 2,21,070 people are eligible to exercise their franchise in 253 booths. There are 1,10,320 male electors, 1,10,687 women and 63 of the third gender. Polling will continue till 6 pm in the evening. According to the Chief Electoral Officer, all arrangements have been made to ensure peaceful voting. Over 1,000 poll officials and an adequate number of security personnel, including seven companies of paramilitary forces, have been deployed.

Also, CCTV cameras and deployment of micro-observers and central forces have been ensured in 106 critical booths and 30 as demanded by various political parties. The by-election to Jharsuguda Assembly Constituency necessitated due to the death of MLA Naba Kishore Das on January 29. While Naba Kishore’s daughter Dipali Das is the Biju Janata Dal candidate, the BJP has fielded Tankadhara Tripathy as its candidate. The Congress has fielded Tarun Pandey. In total, nine candidates are in the fray.
