Five juveniles among 8 apprehended for killing youth in Delhi

New Delhi: Delhi Police have apprehended eight people, including five juveniles, for killing a 23-year-old youth in northwest Delhi’s Adarsh Nagar area, an official said on Monday.

The official said that a PCR call was received at Adarsh Nagar police station on June 24 at 11.12 p.m., in which it was informed that one person in a car has been shot by a group of bikers at Arihant Marg, Road No. 51, going towards Mukund Pur.

On reaching the spot, police found a Hyundai i10 car on the roadside with bullet marks on the driver’s side door. The glass window of the right door was shattered into pieces and scattered over a stretch on the road. There was a lot of blood inside and on both front seats.

“Eleven empty cartridges and two bullet leads were found near and inside the car. The injured person was reportedly already taken to a hospital in an autorickshaw. No eyewitnesses were found at the scene,” said Jitendra Kumar Meena, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest).

However, local inquiries revealed that the injured person was a local boy named Tanish, a resident of Kewal Park in the Adarsh Nagar area.

“Meanwhile, it was noticed that he had been taken to Max Hospital and was undergoing treatment. He had three bullet injuries on his right stomach and one on his right eye. The patient was unfit to provide a statement; however, later he succumbed to his injuries,” said the DCP.

During the investigation, it came to light that Tanish and his friend Jeevan were assaulted by a person named Shamshad of Jahangirpuri in January, and a case was registered at the Adarsh Nagar police station.

As a consequence, Tanish and his associates brutally assaulted Shamshad on the same day, resulting in a case being registered at the Jahangirpuri police station. Shamshad sustained severe injuries and has been bedridden since then, which led his brother and friends to seek revenge.

“Further investigation revealed that the assailants numbered between 5 and 7 and were riding bikes. They followed Tanish from Lal Bagh, Azadpur Terminal, 51 Number Road, and intercepted him near Shani Mandir Tikona Park Road No. 51. They opened fire indiscriminately on his car,” said the DCP.

After the attack, five of the assailants fled to Uttar Pradesh, while two remained in Delhi. Four juveniles were located in western Uttar Pradesh, specifically in Bulandshahr, where they were traced and apprehended. “Thus far, a total of eight individuals have been apprehended/arrested, including three adults identified as Akbar (32), Ravi (27), and Rashid (22), all residents of the Jahangirpuri area,” said the DCP.

“During lengthy interrogations, they confessed their involvement in the crime. Additionally, their interrogation led to the recovery of the weapon used in the offense, as well as the scooty used during the commission of the crime,” the official added.
