Phiringia Tension: Ten Held, Section 144 Imposed

Phulbani: The Kandhamal Police has detained more than ten persons in connection with yesterday’s mob violence and setting fire to the Phiringia Police Station incident. The town looked deserted with heavy police enforcements today morning. Markets remain closed today. The Police has also clamped Section 144 to thwart any escalation of violence. Some people had yesterday torched the Phiringia Police Station alleging Police involvement in ganja smuggling.

The irate public was demanding action against the Police and had obstructed the Phulbani-Baliguda road. The public turned violent and the mob attacked the Police station and torched the furniture, seized ganja, some vehicles and other properties of the police station. The SDPO, Tahasildar and other officials present at the post were also attacked by the mob. Keeping in view the situation, the administration engaged Indian Reserve Battalion guards on the spot to bring peace. Southern Range IG Satyabrata Bhoi reviewed the situation at the spot and held discussions with officials.
