Berhampur Police Arrests Four Burglars, Seizes 2. 7 Kgs Gold and Over Rs 26 Lakh Cash

Berhampur: In a major success for the Berhampur Police, a series of burglary cases has been solved and a gang of burglars and associated persons have been arrested yesterday. The Police also seized stolen ornaments and gold worth 2.7 kilograms and cash of Rs 26, 38, 500 from them.

The Nimakhandi Police has successfully detected the burglary case and arrested four persons namely Sania Gouda, Mohan Padhy, Santosh Gaikwada and Surenda Mahapatra in this connection.

According to the Police, a burglary case was registered in Nimakhandi police station against unknown persons regarding a burglary incident. On the night of 20th September, some unknown culprits committed burglary in the house of Kalicharan Panda and looted gold ornaments of more than 400 grams and 400 grams silver ornaments. A Special team was formed by I.I.C Nimakhandi Police Station to investigate the matter that included S.I JR Behera, Home Guards Aju Kumar Sahu, Prasanta Malan, Jyoti Ranjan Malan, Manoj Sahu and Mitu Pradhan under the direct supervision of Sadar SDPO.

On the basis of some credible information, the main culprit Sania Gouda of Old Berhampur was apprehended and he was thoroughly interrogated. During interrogation, he confessed to have committed a number of burglary cases in different Police Station areas of Berhampur along with two other criminals namely Pramod and Ramudu. Both of them are absconding. On the basis of the statement of the accused Sania Gouda, Mohan Padhy Branch Manager of Muthoot Finance Sanabazar Chhack was apprehended, who assisted the accused in disposal of the stolen gold ornaments to one Santosh Gaikward, the Manager of Viraj Gold Testing Centre at Sana Bazzar Chhak, who was regularly receiving the stolen gold ornaments from the accused Sania Gouda and Mohan Padhy. Accordingly, a raid was conducted at the Testing Center 2nd October and the stolen gold ornaments, melted gold and cash were seized. Similarly, the stolen silver ornaments were also recovered from the receiver Surendra Mahapatra. During investigation of the case, it was also found that the accused Sania Gouda also hired two other criminals namely Pramod and Ramulu. Steps are on to apprehend them and others involved in the case.

As regards to the seizure of cash, the I.T. Department will be requested to investigate the matter, informed Berhampur SP Dr. Saravana Vivek M while adding that the further investigation is underway.
