After Five Days of Counting, IT Dept Unearths Cash of More Than Rs 353 Crore

Bhubaneswar: After five days of uninterrupted raids and counting of cash recovered from the premises related to the companies of MP Dhiraj Sahu, the Income Tax Department has unearthed more than Rs 353 crore. Yesterday, the IT and Bank officials concluded the counting of huge cash in Bolangir. According to sources, the cash that was counted at Bolangir totaled to Rs 305 crore. The total cash recovered is pegged at Rs 353 crore that included Rs 37 Crore from Sambalpur and Rs 11 Crore from Titlagarh. This is said to be the biggest ever cash recovery by the Income Tax Department in a single operation.

About fifty bank officials counted the cash using 40 counting machines continuously for five days. Properties linked to Dhiraj Sahu and his companied were searched in Odisha, Jharkhand and West Bengal were included in the searches. The investigations into the recovery of huge cash by the IT Department continue as its personnel still camping in Bolangir Sudapada where one of the company offices is situated.
