New Delhi: India has successfully completed the evacuation of all its students from the war-torn Sumy region of Ukraine by Tuesday evening. They are being moved from Sumy to Poltava from where they will head to the western Ukrainian borders for evacuation to India through flights. The evacuation was completed as the Russian forces implemented humanitarian corridor from many Ukrainian cities to help people evacuate. About 700 Indian students were stranded in Sumy due to the heavy shelling by Russian forces.
Earlier in a new advisory issued for the Indians, India had said that “establishment of the next humanitarian corridor is uncertain” and that “all stranded Indian nationals are urged to make use of this opportunity and evacuate using trains/vehicles or any other available means of transport, giving due consideration to safety”.
