Bhubaneswar: Amarda Road (Rasgovindapur) airstrip will be operationalised soon. Bibhuti Bhusan Jena, Minister, Commerce and Transport, Steel and Mines had elaborate discussions today with Dr. Krusha Chandra Mohapatra, Minister, Housing and Urban Development and Public Enterprises regarding the airstrip.
Minister Jena reviewed the progress of work and urged on earliest completion of necessary formalities. Besides, all round development of Jharsuguda Airport was also discussed in the presence of Tankadhar Tripathy, MLA, Jharsuguda.
Amarda Road airstrip is a former wartime airfield located near Rasgovindpur in Mayurbhanj District. Built in the 1940s, it has 11,000 feet concrete runway. The proposal to renovate the airstrip for future operations under UDAN Scheme will be realized soon and it will be developed as a commercial airport with acquisition of more land area and necessary infrastructure, Minister Jena said.
