Bhubaneswar: The AIIMS authorities have handed over all the 28 unidentified deadbodies of Bahanaga victims to Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation. The process of handing over of the deadbodies completed yesterday night in the presence of the CBI officials. The BMC has also cremated the deadbodies with full photography at the Bharatpur Crematorium. The 28 dead bodies of Bahanaga Train Tragedy were preserved in a refrigerated Container in AIIMS Bhubaneswar after they were brought to Bhubaneswar for handing over to their relatives.
According to information received, AIIMS received 162 dead bodies in two phases. While 81 bodies were handed over to their family and relatives in the first phase, due to multiple claimants and few other issues, DNA samples of bodies as well as claimants were sent to New Delhi for matching. In the second phase of body handing over process, 28 bodies were preserved at AIIMS. The Institute had received 123 deadbodies on the night of 4th July and 39 others from private and capital hospital. 123 dead bodies received at AIIMS for which inquest were submitted by the Investigating officer. AIIMS also handed over 53 deadbodies to their relatives after DNA matching. Out of total 162 dead bodies, 81 were identified by the relatives. Out of remaining 81, fifty three were identified and confirmed by DNA profiling. The rest 28 remaining unidentified with the AIIMS were handed to the BMC which have been cremated.
