The series is based upon the unheard stories and the real struggles behind the victory of the Indian cricket team during one of its toughest times. Neeraj is a storyteller par excellence and we are honoured to have him create this Special Event Series for our members. This is the first among many of an entertainment slate like never before. We’re certain that the series will set a new benchmark in Special Event storytelling.”
Talking about how ‘Bandon Mein Tha Dum’ came about, Neeraj Pandey shared, “Bandon Mein Tha Dum is an epic tale that outlines ‘Miracles do happen’; and it happened in the India-Australia Test series 2020/2021 which culminated in India’s stunning defeat of the world no.1 Test side at their hallowed home turf of Gabba where they hadn’t lost a test match for 32 years.
“The series was won by India in such a manner that it not only captured the imagination of the entire nation but also provided tremendous joy to the cricketing and wider sporting community all over the world at a time when people were still trying to come to terms with the devastation Covid-19 had brought in their lives. The human stories in this cricketing fairy tale elevated the series beyond a cricketing audience and created huge euphoria across all segments of the Indian society.”
“The nation was gripped and it was therefore befitting for us to bring the story to the people of India of one of the greatest comebacks in the history of sports and cricket. Nothing excited me more than retelling this story which went beyond high-quality cricket, hard work, perseverance, determination , commitment, sportsmanship and decoding the x-factor through the mind of the players which repeated the David Vs Goliath story,” he added.
Cricketer and captain of the series, Ajinkya Rahane added, “This has been one of the most satisfying tours for us as a team. We tackled various obstacles to emerge victorious, something which seemed difficult to many outside the team back then. When I took over as the captain, my major focus was to make sure that the morale of the team remained intact.
“After the first defeat, we managed to come back stronger in the second Test match held in Melbourne. It has been an emotional journey for all of us. However, the second victory was followed by injuries to some of the team’s key players, which gave rise to more challenges. Bandon Mein Tha Dum beautifully encapsulates this journey.”
Ravichandran Ashwin continued, “The India tour of Australia remains to be amongst the most unforgettable experiences as a cricketer. I remember how Hanuma and I were on the field for more than two-and-a-half hours despite enduring some serious injuries.
“But it was a do or die situation for us. Nothing seemed more important than India’s victory against Australia, and I couldn’t be more proud of being a part of that historic tour. Bandon Mein Tha Dum unfolds an emotional journey that ultimately led to a remarkable victory.”
Mohammed Siraj added, “After Mohammed Shami injured his forearm, all eyes were on me as I replaced him as the team’s medium-fast bowler. I was all worked up because it was my Test debut, and I was going through the toughest moment of my life. However, by the blessings of God, it all worked out in my favour on the cricketing front at least, as I took my first five-wicket haul of my career in Test cricket. I dedicate my performance to my late father who will forever be my hero and am excited for fans to witness the inside moments of the series on screen with Bandon Mein Tha Dum on Voot Select!”
Cheteshwar Pujara said, “There were tremendous expectations on me to perform during this series after my memorable performances during the previous tour of Australia. I was keen to meet those expectations, and I aimed to deliver the best for my nation by scoring as many runs as I could to help us achieve a landmark victory. Bandon Mein Tha Dum is a story of grit, determination and mental strength of the Indian cricket squad that triumphed against all odds over the then Australian team, and I’m excited to relive all the precious.”
“I remember feeling immense pressure during the third test match when Ashwin and I had to remain on the field on the final day to ensure our victory. We stayed on for 42.4 overs to secure an unimaginable draw and take the series to the last game. That moment will always be special to me. Bandon Mein Tha Dum has beautifully captured our journey towards a victory that will always be etched in our hearts,” concluded Hanuma Vihari.
