Berhampur: An assistant manager of Arundhati Jewellers Pvt Ltd, Berhampur was arrested for allegedly cheating the employer.
The assistant manager has been identified as Simanchal Patra (30), a resident of Brajaraj Nagar in the city.
The Berhampur Police nabbed Patra for allegedly cheating the employer. The police also seized 523.23 gram gold worth Rs. 33, 38,000.
The Police has registered the case based on the report of the Branch Head of Arundhati Jewellers Pvt. Ltd. Berhampur regarding criminal breach of trust by the assistant manager who in the past seven days took the gold ornaments from the shop’s store with a plea to display the same to different customers at their doorsteps.
However, Patra misappropriated the same and mortgaged the ornaments for Rs. 19,70,000 at Manapuram Finance Bank Ltd. and Muthoot Finance Bank. Out of the mortgaged properties, the accused has reportedly spent the entire money in online casino games, the police said.
The gold ornaments have been released by the accused and have been seized. The accused is arrested and forwarded to Court.
The investigation of the case is under progress, stated Berhampur SP Dr. Saravana Vivek M.
